What about charging in a different currency on my credit card?

Another common concern with placing an order with a gift shop in your recipient’s country is that it will be charged in another currency other than the base currency of your credit card. That means that you will not know exactly what your final charge will be. The vendor, not your credit card company, may determine the exchange rate, which could lead to an unpleasant surprise. Larger vendors will have contracts with American Express, Visa, and MasterCard to be able to charge you in your preferred currency—the currency that is used when you place the order.
