Mme Pommery, a creative genius

Since Mme Pommery took over as head of the champagne house in 1858, the house grew into a household name in the champagne world. She created very unique wines with 1 constant demand: quality pushed to the extreme. She was way ahead of her time in her creations. It was she who was the first to successfully market a brute of champagne and to break with the tradition of very sweet champagne. A woman in a typical man’s world, she imprinted her personality on the champagnes. Which is still reflected in the purity and finesse that the Pommery champagnes offer.

Vranken, a masterpiece of entrepreneurship

In 1976 the young entrepreneur Paul-François Vranken came to settle in the Champagne region with the aim of establishing his own Champagne house. With the motto "striving for the best quality" he creates light and fruity brut champagnes that are a revelation for the true champagne connoisseur. In 1985 Paul-François buys the Château des Castaignes in Montmort, a beautiful villa built on a domain called "La Demoiselle", just outside Epernay. The idea arose to create a new cuvée for Vranken champagne with the name La Demoiselle de Champagne. Demoiselle means both lady and dragonfly, which was also the emblem of Art Nouveau artist René Lalique. A unique champagne was created in a special bottle as a tribute to Art Nouveau.
